Nico Rosberg reveals the difficult conversation he had with his closest friend just hours before he announced his decision to retire from racing, shortly after being crowned the world’s No 1 driver.
Rosberg confessed he so disconcerted by the reaction he decided against confronting his own family with his decision, instead only telling his dad by text.
The 2016 Formula One World Champion talks with journalist James Allen about his decision to retire at the top of his game as part of The Decision – an exclusive UBS series, including describing the moment he knew he had to race and when he knew he had to stop.
He tells Allen: “It does not get more perfect than that. I achieved my mission which I fought for, for the last twenty years, with absolute 100% life dedication. It’s complete fulfilment. It’s done and it’s such a great stepping stone into the next part if my life.”
After giving up a place at Imperial College to study Aeronautical Engineering in order to drive professionally, Nico’s come full circle in his retirement as he looks to explore the world of autonomous cars and technological innovation in Silicon Valley.
